In a move which stands in stark contrast to how every previous POTUS has operated, Trump reiterated his vow to send a heavy federal incursion into the streets of Chicago. Governor JB Pritzker called out Trump for his “unhinged remarks.”
President Donald J Trump has before signaled his intent to send national guard troops into Chicago and expand ICE operations. Today at a press conference, Trump said he is proceeding but did not state exactly when.
Dept. Of Homeland Security Sec. Kristi Noem has already interacted with officials at Great Lakes Naval Training Center to serve as a base of operations for ICE agents and national guard troops. NTC Great Lakes has abundant housing and facilities which are useful for the incursion.
Speaking Tuesday at a press conference, Pritzker called the president “unhinged” and suggested firmly that he has no intention of calling the president to ask for troops to be sent in. Pritzker said, “I know how Trump thinks because I’ve been governor during both of his terms. He has surrounded himself with groveling yes men who are too weak to restrain his most violent and unhinged impulses, or who share those impulses. I can’t live in a fantasy land where I pretend Trump is not tearing this country apart for personal greed and power.”
National Guard troops have no training in law enforcement investigations and do not have the power to make arrests. Trump is effectively a political campaign that is continuing in the White House instead of providing reasoned leadership. Sending troops is clearly a move to divide and distract from increasing inflation, arbitrary tariffs, taking away health care from millions of people and the ongoing cover up of the Epstein files.
The increase of ICE activity is also to coincide with the Latino festivals that take place in September.
