Just before 7:15 p.m., a CSX train hit a vehicle near Broadway Street in Blue Island according to authorities.
Emergency responders arrived on scene and reported one occupant deceased and another injured. No one on the train was reported to have been injured. The person who was killed was identified by the medical examiner as 19 year old Jair Ortega of Harvey Illinois.
“CSX extends its deepest sympathies to everyone impacted by this tragic incident and will continue to support local law enforcement as they complete the investigation,” officials said in a statement.
