In two vehicle crashes, 3 people have been killed and 5 injured. The accidents occurred on I-57 in Calumet Park just south of 120th street according to information from the Illinois State Police.
As a result of the accidents, the north bound lanes of I-57 were shut down from 119th street for about 8 hours in order for investigators to perform their analysis.
According to the ISP, the initial crash occurred just after midnight involving three vehicles. Moments later, three people were standing outside of their vehicles and were struck by another vehicle. Those three people were killed as a result. The other five were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.
The Illinois State Police have not said what led up to the crashes or if weather played a role.
