Today, Governor JB Pritzker endorsed Illinois State Representative Margaret Croke for Illinois Comptroller in the March 17th primary.

Pritzker said Croke “has always been committed to responsible fiscal management. Whether it’s advocating for job creation, reproductive rights, or the expansion of childcare, Margaret knows how to get things done,” Pritzker said. “At a time when the Trump administration is playing politics with federal funding, we need a Comptroller who will not shy away from a fight and will lead with transparency and efficiency.”

Croke and Pritzker are long time allies going back to his run for governor in 2017.

“Every day, he stands up for Illinoisans and fights back against the Trump administration, and I’m proud that he believes I am the best person to serve as comptroller in this critical moment,” Croke said in a statement Monday.

Croke is running in a four way race for the seat. Also on the ballot is Illinois State Senator Karina Villa, Illinois State Representative Stephanie Kifowit and Lake County Treasurer Holly Kim.

In spite of the endorsement and money from Pritzker, Kim is on the odds on favorite.. Her duties as Lake County Treasurer give her the best foundation for the job. While Croke has the fattest campaign coffers, Kim has been outworking her three opponents.

Whomever wins on March 17th will face republican Bryan Drew in the general and have an easy time of it.
