The Thornton Township Board of Trustees led by politician Tiffany Henyard passed a measure designed to continue taking money from your pocket and protect their own greed. This new ordinance is designed to discourage potential candidates from running for any of the offices which make decisions that impact your tax bill. Attorneys have described the new salary ordinance as blatantly illegal but the board did it anyway.

Upon learning of this sheer fleecing of taxpayers, we wondered why would the Trustees pass it? Its because the pot is sweetened for themselves in addition to Henyard.

The new salary ordinance decided the salary for the Thornton Township Supervisor would continue to be $260k annually plus her expense account of $59k every year if Henyard is re-elected in the next cycle. If a challenger runs and wins, the salary would drop to $25k with no expenses.

Under the newly passed measure, the current Thornton Township Trustees will receive $42k annually plus expenses. But if one of them is challenged in an election and looses, the incoming trustee would receive just $5k in annual compensation.

Henyard sweetened the pot for the Thornton Township Clerk, Highway Commissioner and Assessor as well. Their bloated salaries would be maintained if re-elected, but drop to 12k for a successful incoming challenger.

Tiffany Henyard makes a staggering $320k per year for a part time job. The trustees attend one meeting per month which equates to just under $4000 per meeting. This is completely unacceptable by any measure. Working families are taxed enough. Henyard and the board should be trying to find ways to reduce the burden paid by the community but instead, they are working to find ways to take more from you and protect their ill gotten gains. This is bald corruption.

Only one trustee opposed the measure. Thornton Township Trustee Chris Gonzalez voted no and the rest voted yes.

If you live in Blue Island, Burnham, Calumet City, Dixmoor, Dolton, East Hazel Crest, Glenwood, Harvey, Hazel Crest, Homewood, Lansing, Markham, Phoenix, Posen, Riverdale, South Holland and Thornton, you live and pay taxes in Thornton Township. You are paying for Tiffany’s and the board’s salaries through her being your township supervisor and those trustees who are supposed to lookout for you.

It would take just one attorney to challenge the matter in court. Henyard is up for re-election in 2025 and she can and justifiably voted out. In the meantime, Henyard and those Trustees can be contacted here:
